Neighbourhood Vibe

The site of Oakville's original settlement in 1827, and still its downtown core. Bounded by Lake Ontario to the south, Sixteen Mile Creek west, Chartwell Road east and Cornwall Road north, with heritage conservation districts both north of downtown and south of Lakeshore. Mature trees, historic plaques on the houses, and the harbour, boutiques, galleries and restaurants all within walking distance.

Property Pulse

A remarkable range for a small area. Century homes from the mid and late 1800s concentrate south of Lakeshore, many carrying heritage plaques and protected under the Ontario Heritage Act. Around them sit early 1900s Tudor, Georgian and Arts and Crafts houses, contemporary custom infill, upscale townhomes and boutique condominiums — with a handful of lakefront estates at the top of the market. Lots of 100 by 150 feet are typical, and three-quarters of an acre is not unusual.

Unusually varied for an affluent neighbourhood — roughly a third of households have children, a quarter are couples without, and over a third are people living alone. Residents come from 125 different ethnic origins. Schools include New Central and E.J. James feeding Oakville Trafalgar, St. Mary, St. Nicholas and St. Vincent on the Catholic side, plus Appleby College and MacLachlan College among the independents.

Thirty-four parks and seventy-five recreational facilities, including Lakeside and Dingle Parks on the water with promenades and trails. Town Square and its clock tower anchor the shopping district, the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts sits on Navy Street overlooking the creek, and Erchless Estate houses the Oakville Museum. Oakville GO is walkable, with the QEW and 403 close behind.
